Aaniin (hello)!

My name is Colleen Moreau.

Anishinaabe Kwe, I’m an Ojibway Woman from Georgian Bay.

When my two sons were little, I made the decision to raise them without television, to become more grounded with the land.  This provided us with ample opportunity to engage and learn more of our Indigenous Culture.  We enjoyed putting many puzzles together, glazing them and hanging them on our wall.  (I mean ALL our walls!)... as we had a LOT of puzzles.  One day they decided to sell some of the puzzles which were hanging on the wall.  With the money earned…. They both purchased MORE puzzles!  🙂

We learned how to work with leather, make Medicine Bags, purses, wallets, moccasins, make Dream Catchers, jewelry, and bone necklaces.  We also learned the Madicinal medicines that grow in our backyard, and how to make some of them, their uses and why.

I have put myself through College and University, which was no simple task, being a single mom.  However, my boys kept me going and on my path to complete this very important goal.

Life is like a Rollercoaster Ride!  You have your ups and downs, but its how you work through your downs that really count.  My message to you:  Lets remember to raise each other up and be kind to one another, empower our youth and adults alike, to succeed in life.

In the Indigenous Culture, we don’t say Goodbye.  We say:  Baamaapii   (See you Later!).
